For the first time in its militant history, country-wide labor federation Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU) formally declared its support for Leni Robredo and Kiko Pangilinan in the upcoming 2022 national elections on Saturday (April 23).
“Ipinagtitibay ng KMU na buong-buong susuporta’t mangangampanya para sa pagpapanalo ng kandidaturang Leni-Kiko,” they said in a resolution.
(KMU affirms its full support in campaigning for the victory of the Leni-Kiko candidacy.)
The federation highlighted the need to defeat the tandem of the dictator’s son Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Sara Duterte, who they claim is the embodiment of poor governance.
(The elections are an important launch for our calls and wishes in challenging candidates from different positions and parties. However, the Marcos-Duterte tandem is running for office, who embody the poorest type of leadership in the government according to their track records and their families when it comes to stealing from the people’s coffers, cronyism, favoring certain allies and friends, and violating human rights of the people.)
KMU vowed to campaign the tandem face-to-face in factories and communities, and will take part in poll-watching activities to maintain the integrity of the elections.
Another labor federation, Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP), is backing the UniTeam of Bongbong Marcos and Sara Duterte-Carpio while the Bukluran ng Manggagawang Pilipino (BMP) is supporting Ka Leody de Guzman.
