Vice presidential bet Rizalito David, running mate of Jose Montemayor Jr., seems to have a knack for endorsing candidates outside the Montemayor-David tandem.

Speaking in a PiliPinas Forum interview organised by COMELEC and KBP that aired on Friday (May 6), David declared his endorsement of Vice President Leni Robredo as the country's next president, in front of presidentiable Montemayor.

As reported by CNN Philippines, David said he believes helping Robredo win would prevent the return of another Marcos to Malacañang, calling the frontrunner tandem Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Sara Duterte a "clear and present danger" to the country.

"Sa aking pragmatic reasons, dahil ang aking layunin ngayon ay sana wag manalo si Bongbong Marcos at si Sara Duterte… tahasan ko na pong ine-endorso, with respect to my ka-tandem na si Dr. Montemayor, na si Leni Robredo po ang ating tulungan upang baka sakali naman ay talunin niya si Bongbong Marcos," he said.

(For pragmatic reasons, because my goal now is to prevent Bongbong Marcos and Sara Duterte from winning, I am openly endorsing Leni Robredo, with respect to my running mate Dr. Montemayor. Let’s help Robredo in hopefully beating Bongbong Marcos.)

David's endorsement of Robredo comes just one week after he similarly threw his support behind another rival candidate, fellow vice presidential bet Senate President Tito Sotto III.

David, who is known for his religious stances on governance, said of Sotto, "To me that is most important kasi he loves life, he is pro-life. He listens to his family. He listens to his wife. Gentleman, family man. Sa akin, kumbaga sa grupo namin na tumatakbo ngayon, siya ang may pinakamagandang record na dapat tulungan."

(To me, among us vice presidential candidates, he is the one with the best track record who deserves support.)

David wrote on his Facebook page, "At the risk of being bashed and hated by some people I will stand by my conviction. I have officially endorsed Leni Robredo and Tito Sotto as my bets to defeat BBM-SARA."

Despite having publicly endorsed an opposing vice presidential candidate, David has to date still not withdrawn his election bid.
