14 Aug – Ella Cruz has won her first Cinemalaya award for her performance in the Thop Nazareno movie, "Edward".
As reported on Pika Pika, the actress, who bested her seniors including Meryll Soriano to win Best Supporting Actress in the Full-Length category, shared the good news on social media, writing, "I can't believe it. Thank you very much."
Cruz wasn't able to attend the event, and was represented by director Nazareno, who accepted the award on her behalf.
This is also the first award Cruz won in more than ten years, after winning Best Child Actress and Best Film Child Performer at the FAMAS Awards and Gawad Genio Awards respectively for her role in "Resiklo".
In "Edward", Cruz plays Agnes, a patient in the female ward of a hospital who captured the titular character's heart (Louise Abuel) while he was there taking care of his father.
