FORMER world title challenger Juan Miguel Elorde faces unbeaten Aussie prospect Sam Goodman in an International Boxing Federation (IBF) Inter-Continental and World Boxing Organization (WBO) Oriental super bantamweight title fight on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at the Hordern Pavilion in Sydney, South Wales, Australia.

Elorde returns to the ring after a nine-month layoff. His last fight was a six-rounder against Aroel Romasasa on Oct. 23, 2021 in Parañaque City. Elorde beat Romasasa via a one-sided unanimous decision.

The 35-year-old Elorde fought for a world title in 2019. He challenged then WBO super bantamweight champion Emanuel Navarrete and lost via a fourth round technical knockout.

The 23-year-old Goodman, on the other hand, is a promising super bantamweight prospect that’s being groomed to become a world champion. He’s currently ranked No. 9 by the IBF, wherein Murodjon Akhmadaliev is currently the beltholder.

A win over a veteran former world title contender should be good for Goodman’s resume and surely boost him up the rankings.

Goodman is coming off a unanimous decision over Fumiya Fuse. He also owns wins over Pinoy pugs Richie Mepranum and Claudevan Sese.

Elorde, the grandson of the late great Gabriel “Flash” Elorde, is 29-2 with 15 knockouts, Goodman is 11-0 with six knockouts.
