FORMER world title contender Juan Miguel Elorde bowed down to undefeated prospect Sam Goodman following an eighth round technical knockout on July 20 at the Hordern Pavilon in Sydney, Australia.

The 23-year-old Goodman dominated the fight using his jab as his main weapon. He occasionally connected with his right that wobbled Elorde.

In the eighth round, Goodman, rated No. 9 by the International Boxing Federation (IBF) and No. 14 by the World Boxing Organization (WBO), connected with a three-punch combination that rocked Elorde and forced referee Brad Vocale to stop the fight in the 1:26 mark.

Goodman successfully defended his IBF Intercontinental and WBO Oriental super bantamweight belts. He stayed unbeaten and is now 12-0 with seven knockouts.

The 35-year-old Elorde suffered his second loss in four fights in the last four years. He dropped to 29-3 with 15 knockouts.

Elorde fought for a world title in 2019 when he challenged then WBO super bantamweight king Emanuel Navarrete in Las Vegas. Navarrete stopped Elorde in four rounds.

Elorde is the grandson of legendary Pinoy boxer Gabriel “Flash” Elorde, who is considered as one of the greatest Filipino boxers in boxing history.
