Emergency services staff killed in road accident on his way home

AN EMPLOYEE of the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CCDRRMO) was killed in a road accident on Sunday morning, Oct. 30, 2022.

This was confirmed by Harold Alcontin, the new officer-in-charge of the CCDRRMO.

Alcontin identified the victim as Nestor Guiwan Jr.

He said Guiwan worked as a medic and was assigned in one of the ambulances of the Cebu City Emergency Medical Services.

He said Guiwan had just gotten off duty and was driving his motorcycle home to Barangay Busay when he collided with a car that was said to be speeding.

“Kalit lagi ning hitaboa. Gi-assist pa siya sa atong ambu iyang kaubanan unya gidala sa ospital apan nakabsan gyud sa iyang kinabuhi,” Alcontin said.

(It was so sudden. It was our ambulance and his colleagues who brought him to the hospital where he eventually died.)

Alcontin said he doesn’t have all the details of the accident, but there was a big possibility that the driver of the other vehicle was under the influence of liquor.

“We just lost a responder. He was someone who had been helping people affected by (Severe Tropical Storm) Paeng and would have served during All Saints’ and All Souls’ Days. He died from an accident caused by human error,” Alcontin said in Cebuano.

He said the entire CCDRRMO mourns the sudden demise of one of its own. (BBT / PJB)
