Enrile Riled By Miriam’s Accusations

Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile yesterday said it was "unethical" for a colleague to suggest that senators who voted to convict former Chief Justice Renato Corona were bribed in exchange for their votes.

In a radio interview, Enrile referred to that colleague as Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago who had earlier hinted that some senators were "rewarded" by the Aquino administration in the form of Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) or more popularly known as pork barrel.

Enrile, who sat as presiding officer of the Senate during the impeachment trial, refuted Santiago's accusation.

"Alam mo mahirap 'yung nagbibintang sa mga kasama. (You know, accusing your colleagues is wrong). First of all it's unethical," Enrile said in an interview over radio DZRH.

"Magkakasama kami. Huwag naman niyang siraan ang Senado, sapagkat hindi naman totoo na merong ibinigay ang Malacañang sa amin na pabuya upang kami ay maging tuta (We're all together as one. She should not make disparaging remarks against the Senate, because it's not true that Malacañang gave us rewards for us to be lap dogs)," Enrile said.
