Espina: Zonta 1 turnover of leadership

·2 min read

The Biennium 2020-2022 of Zonta Club of Cebu 1 was the most challenging as it hurdled the pandemic, with Covid-19 causing enormous deaths and multiple related diseases. The government needed as much help from the business, academe, religious and socio-civic sectors.

True to its vision of advocacy and service, the Zontians across the globe exhausted all their resources to help.

President Gina Garcia Atienza led the team of Zonta Cebu 1 to gather donations, cash or in kind, not to mention services to gather food, clothing, medicines and materials for damaged shelters, at the same time when super typhoon Odette ravaged our communities in December 2021.

Congratulations, President Gina, for your superb leadership with the concerted efforts of the past presidents and directors, outgoing board of directors and consultants.

We will again extend assistance in the BY 2022-2024 headed by the newly inducted 25th president Jane Panganiban and her board of directors and consultants, with the past presidents and area directors and other area chairpersons. We look forward to the energetic Tess Chan as the incoming Area 3 director. Stella Bernabe, previous Area 3 director, will surely continue to help as she never left Zonta Club of Cebu 1 alone.

At this point, I couldn’t help but remember and pay tribute to past president Anita Sanchez, who had the longest years of remarkable service to the Club under so many presidents.

Meanwhile, let us capture the grandeur of the “Night At the Oscars 2” (The first Oscar Night was held in 1999) as the motif of the turnover ceremonies of the past and incoming officers of one of the oldest chapters, the Zonta Club Club of Cebu 1. Every Biennium is a season of spring of laurels. Every step of the way, a new and novel thrust settles in the Zonta Hall of Fame of Advocacy and Service.

President Gina Atienza now joins the rest. And taking her first step after Gina is vivacious Jane Panganiban, whose efficacious handling of many projects has made her the most deserving to carry the gavel of leadership for BY 2022-2024. The Lord will be Her Guide.
