THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has urged entrepreneurs to come up with better and sustainable products and services moving forward to win the consumers again.
As consumer behavior shifted, DTI Undersecretary Ruth Castelo said it is high time consumption focused on better production methods and better products.
“We continue to build better communities and uplift the lives of the Filipino. It is high time that we also gave focus on the impacts of our consumption behavior on the society and the environment,” she said during the VisMin Innovation Month launching on Friday, Dec. 18, 2020.
Castelo lauded the Benito Catalino Yap Foundation for its innovation fund that supports talents of groups and individuals who have leveled up their game and have brought transformation to the society.
“It is innovation, which can be a product of service, technology or an initiative, that will provide an immeasurable impact on the sector concerned,” she said.
Castelo said across the globe, governments are beginning to highlight the importance of ethical and sustainable consumption.
She explained that sustainable consumption means ensuring the basic needs and bringing better quality of life to the people without jeopardizing the needs of the future generation. This entails minimizing the use of natural resources and toxic materials, and the emission of wastes and pollutants.
Ethical consumption, on the other hand, takes into consideration the welfare of the people, society, resources, including employment in the production, distribution and selling of products and services.
Moreover, Castelo said the DTI will support micro, small and medium enterprises in achieving sustainability in manufacturing and consumption.
“We are here every step of the way, helping business owners to start their conceptualization phase and walking them through the registration process,” she said.
DTI’s Negosyo Centers equip businesses with financing options, application guides, market development services and product development assistance. (JOB)
