Former MTV VJ Donita Rose is the new “corporate chef” of Island Pacific, a chain of Filipino supermarkets in the United States, the media reported yesterday.
“It’s official! You are now looking @islandpacificmarket’s Corporate R&D Chef,” Rose said in a social media post that appeared last week. She added that she is working with colleagues, including former actress Giselle Tongi, in bringing Filipino cuisine “to the next level.”
Rose also shared an article from Grocery Dive, which discussed Island Pacific private label line. The supermarket chain, which has 17 stores in California and Nevada in total, was founded by Nino Jefferson Lim, the husband of former actress Krista Ranillo. Tongi works as a marketing and branding consultant at Island Pacific and was also featured in Grocery Dive’s article, along with Rose and Lim.
The Filipino-American Rose decided to leave the Philippines for good and move back to the United States in 2020, after experiencing financial setbacks. She experienced a dearth of showbiz projects and her ex-husband, Eric Villarama, failed to give consistent child support for their son, Joshua Paul Villarama.
Eric and Rose were married in California in 2003 but separated in 2015. The actress decided to move back to Manila with her son and said in media interviews that she and her husband split over “character flaws and character issues.” Their divorce was finalized in December 2016.
The former television host was considered an “It Girl” in the 1990s because of her work on MTV Asia, and she even appeared on the cover of Time magazine. She started her career as a teenager in the 1980s as one of the hosts of the variety show That’s Entertainment in GMA-7.
