A FORMER intelligence officer and squad leader of the New People's Army (NPA) in Negros Occidental, who recently surrendered to the folds of the law, was arrested by authorities in Dumanjug town, Cebu Friday, July 15, 2022.

The former rebel was identified as Jolito "Rondon" Luab Cauyan, 30, who recently resided in Barangay Bulac, Dumanjug.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Rolando Barraquio, chief of 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company, said Cauyan surrendered to authorities last week and promised to assimilate with the law.

It was found out, however, that Cauyan had a standing warrant of arrest in Kabankalal City, Negros Occidental for attempted murder.

Police served the warrant on Thursday, which was released by Judge Rodney Magbanua of the 6th Judicial Region, Regional Trial Court Branch 61 of Kabankalan City on February 28, 2022. The court approved a bail of P120,000.

Barraquio said Cauyan is part of the priority list of the Philippine National Police and Armed Forces of the Philippines for being part of a communist terrorist group (CTG).

Meanwhile, the police chief also said that they also received information that there are other members of CTGs in Negros provinces who want to surrender to the government. (AYB/JGS)
