MANDAUE City Mayor Jonas Cortes tested negative for Covid-19 and wished Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama a speedy recovery.

The Mandaue City mayor immediately had a swab test following Rama's announcement that he had tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday, John Eddu Ibañez, executive secretary of Cortes, told SunStar Cebu Wednesday, August 3, 2022.

Ibañez said Cortes was doing fine and never felt any sickness.

In a text message to SunStar, Ibañez said Cortes sends "healthy vibes" to the Cebu City mayor for his immediate recovery.

Cortes, along with Rama and other Cebu government officials, attended the opening of the 453rd Founding Anniversary celebration of the Province of Cebu at the Provincial Capitol in Cebu City on August 1.

Cortes, along with Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia, Vice Gov. Hilario Davide III, Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard Chan, and officials of the Department of the Interior and Local Government were photographed together at the event with Rama unmasked.

During a press conference on Tuesday, Cebu City's public information office announced that Rama had tested positive after a couple of RT-PCR tests on July 31 and August 1.

Rama, however, remained asymptomatic and was doing well in quarantine in his residence, said Dr. Mary Jean Loreche, the city's consultant for health and hospital operations.

Cortes has twice contracted Covid-19, the first time in April 2021 and the second time in January 2022.
