Facebook tests mobile sound alerts, direct reply feature

In a bid to attract more engagement from mobile users, Facebook is testing new mobile-oriented features such as sound alerts and an option to reply directly to comments to an original post.

But Facebook said the new features are still in the testing stage and will not be immediately available to everyone, according to a report on TechHive.com.

"The sound alert happens whenever a user receives a notification, such as when someone likes or comments on one of their posts," the report said.

However, it also noted a possible issue where heavy activity may make the notifications annoying to people around the user.

The report said Facebook also is trying out a reply option for comments posted to Timeline.

It was the latest change to the social network, which TechHive.com said tested one week earlier a new design for its controversial Timeline interface. — TJD, GMA News
