A 70-YEAR-OLD farmer was arrested in his house in Barangay Napo, Carcar City, southern Cebu on Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2022, after being accused of raping his granddaughter five times in 2017.

Juan (not his real name) was caught by the police led by Carcar City police chief Lt. Col. Ardiolito Cabagnot based on an arrest warrant issued by Carcar City Regional Trial Court Judge Joy Redoble on Feb. 19, 2020.

Cabagnot told SunStar Cebu that Juan was charged in 2017 after he was accused by his own granddaughter, Angel (not her real name), of allegedly raping her five times while he was staying with her family.

Conflict vs. family helped revive case

Cabagnot said that raping his granddaughter, Juan reportedly fled from Carcar City and stayed in Davao City for five years before returning back to his hometown after reconciling with his family.

“Nipauli ni siya daw kay OK naman ilang pamilya, unya nagkabikil pagbalik naugkat ang kaso, nadakpan,” said Cabagnot.

(He reportedly came back home as his relationship with his family already went well, but it turned sour again, enabling the rape case to be revived, and it resulted in his arrest).

Juan will be facing trial for five counts of statutory rape. No bail was recommended.
