Farmer with hack wounds found in Sibonga

A FARMER was discovered dead in the mountain barangay of Bato in the southern town of Sibonga, Cebu early Monday morning, January 23, 2023.

The victim was identified as 51-year-old Elmer Fiel Redillo, a resident of Purok Tambis in the same barangay.

He had hack wounds in the neck and chest.

According to Senior Master Sergeant Michelle Ponce, investigator at the Sibonga Police Station, Redillo was last seen harassing people around 10 p.m. on Sunday, January 22. He was very drunk.

Santos Maravillas, a 70-year-old resident in the area, told police they were used to the victim getting rowdy whenever he had too much to drink.

Maravillas said they usually ignored him and he would just end up sleeping by the side of the road. That was why they were surprised to find his dead body covered in blood around 5:45 a.m., he said.

“Redillo had this habit that whenever he got drunk, he would pester people. Maybe the killer got annoyed,” Ponce said in Cebuano.

Police have called five men whom they consider as persons of interest for questioning.

Ponce said one of them has been acting strange and they think he may have been responsible for Redillo’s death.

She said the five men were also drinking in the area at the same time that Redillo was up to his drunken antics.

Meanwhile, Ponce said a big dagger may have been used to inflict the deep cut in the victim’s neck and chest. (AYB, PJB)
