Farmer shot dead in Asturias

A 54-YEAR-OLD farmer was shot dead in Purok 2, Barangay Tagamakan, Asturias town in southern Cebu Sunday afternoon, June 19, 2022.

Senior Master Sergeant Gilmer Noval, investigating officer of Asturias Municipal Police Station, identified the victim as Roldan Cuyos Bernido, a resident of Barangay Tagamakan, Asturias.

Noval told SunStar Cebu that the victim went to his friend’s house around 3:30 p.m. Sunday to play mahjong. He went home around 5 p.m. but was shot dead by an unidentified man while driving his motorcycle on his way home.

A barangay watchman (tanod) heard the gunshots and responded immediately but saw the victim already on the ground, covered with blood.

The tanod reported the incident to the Asturias Police Station around 5:45 p.m. Sunday.

The area where the crime happened is located around 20 kilometers away from the Asturias police station.

The Asturias police have coordinated with the Scene of the Crime Operatives for an autopsy and investigation.

Noval said that based on their initial report, the victim sustained gunshot wounds on the head, shoulder and butt.

"Naa na mi gisubay nga mga motibo, ug naa na mi person of interest nga nakit-an pero di pa ma divulge namo kay need pa ug enough na ang evidence para lig-on ug pwede na ma file sa court," Noval said.

He said investigation is ongoing. (GDC)
