Farmer succumbs to severe head injuries after being beaten by neighbor in Toledo City

A FARMER died after he was beaten by a piece of wood by his neighbor in Sitio Akrho, Barangay Cantabaco, Toledo City on Monday afternoon, November 7, 2022.

The victim was identified as 40-year-old Eduardo Ombao Villarmea, who succumbed to severe head injuries.

Belino Sasan Villar, 54, confessed to the crime.

According to Lieutenant Jake Seares, Toledo City Police Station spokesman, the murder’s motive was an old conflict.

He said the incident was reported to the police station around 10:30 p.m. on Monday.

Based on their initial investigation, Villarmea had gone to Villar’s house accompanied by the latter’s mother, Rebecca.

When Villar saw the two of them together, he quickly grabbed hold of a piece of wood and beat the victim in the head.

He then hid in the bush but was later caught by barangay police security officers who turned him over to the police.

“It seemed Villarmea wanted to reconcile with Villar, but he was beaten instead,” Seares said in Cebuano.

He said the two men had been threatening each other for a while.

He said they also received reports that Villarmea would always show up at Villar’s house, incensing the latter. Seares said they are preparing to charge Villar with murder. (GPL, PJB)
