Ferdinand âBongbongâ Marcos Jr.âs spokesperson Atty. Vic Rodriguez, who previously said that he had no social media accounts, called Facebook out for âcensorshipâ after his account was suspended for ânot following community standards.â
âFB/Meta suspended my account because I am for Bongbong Marcos,â Rodriguez said. âThis is censorship of the highest degree and interference on a sovereign act.â
The platformâs community standards include sections on violence and criminal behavior, safety, objectionable content, integrity and authenticity, respecting intellectual property, and content-related requests and decisions. Under integrity and authenticity, there is a subsection solely for misinformation.
Marcos Jr. is benefiting from positive-toned, misleading information according to the findings of fact-checking initiative Tsek.ph.
On April 6, Meta announced that they are preparing for the 2022 elections through building new products and developing stronger policies while working with the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), watchdogs, fact-checkers, and civil society.
âThese efforts expand our ability to remove harmful content and networks when we see them, connect more people to credible election information, promote digital literacy and civic engagement and provide more transparency into political ads,â Meta said.
Rodriguez was given 30 days by the platform to disagree with the decision, or his account will be permanently terminated.
