Felicity Jones would love the chance to return to the Star Wars universe as Jyn Erso and also to have another bite at playing Black Cat in the Spider-Man universe.

The 37-year-old British star played Jyn Erso in 2016 prequel Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and briefly portrayed Felicia Hardy — aka Black Cat — in the ill-fated 2014 sequel The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

While promoting her new movie The Last Letter From Your Lover, Jones told Yahoo Entertainment UK that the "whole Star Wars world has now opened up", leaving the door open for Erso to appear again, despite her apparent death in Rogue One.

"I mean, I'd love to do that. To bring Jyn Erso back. She was such a fantastic character to play," Jones revealed.

"I had a wonderful time playing her and I loved all of the physicality of the role and learning about martial arts and boxing. She's a special kid. So without a doubt, that would be lovely."

Jones said she loved the experience of shooting Rogue One with director Gareth Edwards, describing being on a Star Wars set as "one of those real 'pinch me' moments" in her career.

She added: "Star Wars is so much a part of film history. There would be days when I'd just look around and see stormtroopers and all of the amazing characters and these vast sets and I'd just think it was such a special moment. Characters coming in on helicopters.

"It was extraordinary. It's such a unique franchise and a very special one to be a part of."

Rogue One earned $1.06bn (£759m) at the global box office on the back of strong reviews and has already spawned a spin-off for Cassian Andor — the rebel character played by Diego Luna.

Jones also revealed she would be keen to reprise the role of Black Cat in the Spider-Man franchise, particularly given opportunities created by the upcoming Marvel blockbuster Spider-Man: No Way Home.

That film will feature characters from various generations of the Spider-Man universe, including Alfred Molina's Doc Ock from Spider-Man 2 and Jamie Foxx as Electro from the Amazing Spider-Man series.

Jones played Felicia Hardy in the 2014 Amazing Spider-Man sequel, but never got the opportunity to explore her feline alter ego.

She said: "I loved the idea, again, with that character of accessing it through her physicality. You're playing a cat.

"I remember being on the subway in New York and seeing these guys doing these amazing acrobatics off the side of the subway train and off the handlebars.

"I remember thinking I would tap into something like that if I was playing that character and learn to do that almost like parkour or something in order to play her. Those kind of characters are so much fun to do and it'd be cracking."

In The Last Letter From Your Lover, Jones plays a journalist who becomes obsessed with a love affair from the past after she uncovers a selection of mysterious, romantic letters.

Also starring Shailene Woodley, Callum Turner and Nabhaan Rizwan, the film is in UK cinemas from 6 August.
