FEU and Gilas Pilipinas point guard RJ Abarrientos will be heading to Korea to play for the Ulsan Hyundai Mobis in the Korean Basketball League.

The development comes a few weeks after Ateneo standout and Abarrientos’ Gilas teammate, SJ Belangel, also announced that he was going to forego playing his final playing year in the UAAP in lieu of the Daegu KOGAS in the KBL.

According to reports, the 22-year-old has already agreed in principle to sign with the Phoebus last week, thus ending a brief yet often spectacular UAAP career for the Tamaraws. Abarrientos finished his one-and-done season for FEU with averages of

13.8 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.53 assists, and 1.13 steals. More importantly, he helped lead the Tamaraws back to the Final Four where they fell to runners-up, Ateneo de Manila University.

Scouts also took notice of the spunky guard way back in 2019 when he began suiting up for the Philippines’ men’s national team. In the 2021 Asia Cup Qualifiers, the 5-foot-10 guard normed 8.3 points, 3.7 assists, and 1.3 rebounds and then, averaged 7.5 points, 2.0 assists, and 2.0 rebounds during the 2021 Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Belgrade, all while displaying uncommon composure for a player his age.
