Filipina, 67, succumbs to Covid-19

A FILIPINA, 67 years old, has died from Covid-19, becoming the second mortality in the Philippines.

The Department of Health (DOH) confirmed the death in a statement Wednesday evening, March 11.

"The reported death is the patient with ID PH35 confined at Manila Doctors Hospital in Manila City," the DOH said.

The agency said it was still gathering and validating information on the reported death. Details would be released as soon as these are available.

Based on data released earlier by the DOH, Patient 35 neither had history of travel nor exposure to a Covid-19 case.

She manifested symptoms on February 29 and was confirmed to be a positive case earlier Wednesday.

The DOH made the confirmation in Manila as authorities in Dumaguete City in Negros Oriental and Cagayan de Oro City in Mindanao reported the first cases in the Visayas and Mindanao, respectively.

The two cases are among the 16 new cases reported by the DOH Wednesday afternoon, bringing the total number of Covid-19 patients in the Philippines to 49.

The Philippines earlier reported the first Covid-19 death outside China with the passing of Patient 2, a 44-year-old Chinese male tourist, at the San Lazaro Hospital.

Two Covid-19 patients in the country, a 62-year-old Filipino male and an 86-year-old American male, are in critical condition at the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)
