Filipino American singer and songwriter Olivia Rodrigo surprise-dropped the music video for her witty, rebellion-themed “SOUR” track “brutal” on her official YouTube channel last Tuesday (August 24).
The “brutal” video, directed by Petra Collins – who also filmed “good 4 u” and music videos for Selena Gomez, Carly Rae Jepsen, among others – is inspired by '90s and Y2K pop culture.
The debut track from her debut album “SOUR” also featured a satirical visualization of the artist’s commentary on societal standards.
In a tweet, Olivia opened up about how much fun she had filming the music video. “Had so much fun making this with my genius friend Petra Collins and I’m so stoked it’s out in the world,” she said.

Fans can't get enough of the pop star's new video, and they're flocking to Twitter to share their views about the three-minute video.
"Sour," Olivia's first album which was released in May, is now the "biggest album debut" of 2021 so far.
The 11-track record has soared to the top of Rolling Stone’s Top 200 album chart for the week of May 21 to 27. The singer also dominated Rolling Stone’s Top 100 Songs chart in June.
