Filipino-American singer Bella Poarch takes to Twitter in an attempt to take part in a long-standing local tradition: chismis (gossip).
In a tweet posted on Tuesday (Feb 22), the Tiktok sensation is seen peeping through a parking lot wall in an attempt to get the latest gossip. “Yung gusto mong makichismis pero di mo abot (When you want to tune-in to the gossip but couldn’t:) 🤣🇵🇭 ,” she said.

She posted the same images four days earlier, inviting her followers to provide a caption.
With around 20,000 likes and nearly 950 retweets, Bellas’s Filipino followers joined in the fun as she embraced the role of a marites. The latter (short of Mare, ito ang latest [Friend, this is the lates]) is typically a nickname given to a Filipina who is up-to-date on and shares local gossip with her friends and neighbors.
A similar post on Facebook has over 172,000 reactions and over 6,000 shares as of this writing.
The Build a Bitch singer has never been shy about acknowledging her Filipino roots. In a separate February 15 tweet, Bella shared a bright green, emoji-laden Valentine’s Day card that said “Hindi ka ba napapagod? Buong araw na kasing tumatakbo sa isip ko (Aren’t you tired? You’ve been racing through my mind all day.)”
The TikTok sensation went viral on August 13 following the release of the music video for her song "Inferno." The video is a collaboration between the Fil-Am TikTok star and artist Sub Urban that also featured cameos from several famous content creators including fellow Filipinos Ivana Alawi and Bretman Rock.
Bella has more than 88 million TikTok followers and over 2 billion likes.
