Filipino mother and daughter die after stabbing attack in Toronto

A Filipino mother and her daughter have died from their wounds, after they were stabbed inside their car in Toronto, Canada on Friday (August 26).

Elvie Sig-Od, 44, and Angelica Sig-Od, 20, both of Toronto, succumbed to their injuries in hospital, according to several media outlets.

The attack took place in the area of Bathurst Street and Ellerslie Avenue at approximately 3:30pm.

Police arrived on the scene to find the two female victims with life-threatening injuries where they were both pronounced dead, despite life-saving measures.

A suspect, who is now in custody, has been identified as Godfrey Sig-od, Elvie's ex-husband. He appeared in court on Saturday, where he was charged with two counts of second-degree murder.

The accused was involved in an altercation with the mother and daughter according to the police, adding that the victims and suspect were known to each other and family members.

Angelica was said to have been going to Seneca College and wanted to be a flight attendant.

"The Seneca community is deeply saddened by the sudden death of student Angelica Sid-Od," the Seneca College statement read, which it released shortly after Angelica was identified as one of the victims. reads.

"Our thoughts are with Ms. Sig-Od's loved ones, friends and Seneca classmates and professors. Counselling and support services are available to the Seneca community."

Marvin Delores, a local pastor, has set up a GoFundMe page to raise funds among the community for the funeral, and to help bring the remains of mother and daughter back to the Philippines.

"They do not have relatives here in Ontario to arrange their funeral, so as their pastor, I decided to ask for your help to raise funds," Dolores wrote on the fund-raising page.
