Carlo Paalam is set to participate in the men’s flyweight division of the Tokyo Summer Games.
The 22-year-old is the youngest boxer in the Tokyo Olympics-bound Philippine contingent.
He captured his career’s first gold medal at the 30th SEA Games, reigning supreme over the men’s flyweight division.
Paalam picked garbage at a sanitary landfill in Cagayan de Oro when he was young, and was discovered by talent scouts while boxing at the local "Boxing at the Park" tournament.
After the Cagayan de Oro boxing program recruited him in 2009, he developed the talents that earned him the call-up to the Philippine national team in 2013.
