Jayson Valdez is set to represent the Philippines in the air rifle 10-meter event of the Tokyo Olympics.
The Filipino sports shooter is a second-generation athlete. He is the son of three-time SEA Games champion Julius Valdez.
He is the only shooter to book a ticket to Tokyo, and the 12th Filipino to qualify for the Olympics after receiving the pass from the International Shooting Sports Federation via its quota system.
Valdez is the first Filipino shooter to compete in the Olympics since 2012, when Paul Brian Rosario donned the colours of the country in the men’s skeet event.
He placed at the podium in the 2015 SEA Games in Singapore where he captured silver.
