Filipino president Rodrigo Duterte toured Australian Navy ship HMAS Adelaide, docked in Manila, on October 10.

The ship is in place to help the Philippines government tackle Islamic terror in Marawi region and Australia has been assisting in this way since June.

On October 11, the PhilStar reported that Duterte blamed local government in Marawi for the terrorists’ stronghold on the region, which has caused the displacement of “thousands” of residents.

“They have positions and yet we are not aware of it. I am blaming officials of the local government for that. I think I have to purge them. Nobody told us about the tunnels that similar to (those created by the) Viet Cong.” Credit: Royal Australian Navy via Storyful
