MANILA, Philippines – Overseas Filipinos infected with the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) are now at 169, according to the figures released by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).
As of March 24 (Tuesday), the region with the highest number of Filipinos positive for COVID-19 is in Asia Pacific Region with 111 cases, followed by the Americas and Europe with 20 cases each and the Middle East with 18 cases.
The DFA said 90 of the total number recovered while 77 others are undergoing treatment.
As for the number of Filipinos who succumbed to COVID-19 abroad, the DFA said there remains two – former foreign relations expert Dr. Alan Ortiz who died in France and one from Asia.
Dr. Ortiz was the President of Philippine Council for Foreign Relations.
He was invited by the government of France for a security conference in Paris.
He left Manila on March 3 and passed away in the early morning of March 23 “due to complications from COVID-19,” according to his daughter Monica’s post on Facebook.
