‘BE YOU’ finally in Cebu, gets December concert date

CEBUANO K-pop stans or casual listeners should brace themselves as “BE YOU” is taking over the Queen City of the South.

Neuwave Events and Productions is bringing the first-ever “A Tribute to the Elderly, BE YOU 2: THE WORLD WILL CARE” to Cebu. It is an advocacy concert dedicated to the elderly to raise awareness for our dear senior citizen’s welfare, rights and health.

K-pop began to take off in the Philippine entertainment industry at the beginning of the past decade with the appearance of a new generation of Korean bands and the Korean Wave.

With the excitement surrounding K-pop acts in the country, it’s not surprising that the Philippines ranked even higher than South Korea as the nation with the third-highest number of K-pop followers. According to Twitter’s K-pop data from 2021, the Philippines lagged behind Japan in second place and Indonesia in first place. The United States came in fifth, with South Korea taking the fourth slot.

“BE YOU” will highlight these K-pop idol groups considered as “third-generation,” idols that debuted in the 2010s who have significantly influenced the dominance of the genre. The growth of social media had a significant role in K-pop’s ascent and the genre’s global domination.

The event features never before seen K-pop acts from South Korea’s renowned artists: EXO’s Xumin and Chen; BoA; and TVXQ!’s U-KNOW and MAX CHANGMIN. With special guests: Pilita Corales, Ian Veneracion, Lady Pipay and Lukas Magallano.

“A Tribute to the Elderly, BE YOU 2: THE WORLD WILL CARE” will be held at the Mactan Newtown Open Grounds, in Lapu-Lapu City on Dec. 8.

Neuwave is working with the local government of Lapu-Lapu City and other agencies to ensure the safety and security of everyone in this larger-than-life event. (PR)
