Fire-stricken CH left wing to get ‘facelift’

THE Mandaue City Government plans to renovate the left wing of the City Hall, which was damaged by fire on Thursday, June 11, 2020.

The Office of the Building Official (OBO) has evaluated the structure of the affected offices.

According to John Eddu Ibañez, Mayor Jonas Cortes’ executive secretary, it can still be used but the divisions, roofing and wall paint need to be repaired or replaced.

Personnel of the Department of General Services have been working overtime to clean and fix pipelines and electrical wiring of the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) Office and the Mandaue City Public Information Office.

On Sunday, June 14, they finished fixing the electrical wiring and the water supply, restored the air conditioning units, revarnished the staircase handrail and repaired the comfort rooms.

Ibañez said City Budget Officer Giovanni Tianero assured that the City still has enough money to allocate for the renovation project.

He said they are waiting for the OBO to submit a budget proposal for the cost of the renovation.

Ibañez said the renovation will affect the operations of the city councilors and their staff.

The mayor earlier suggested moving the SP Office to the second floor of the Mandaue City Public Market.

Ibañez said the positions of the cubicles inside the SP Office will have to conform to social distancing guidelines and other health standards to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019. (KFD)
