A GRANULAR lockdown was implemented in three manufacturing firms and a construction site in Mandaue City after some of their employees tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
However, August Lizer Malate, head of the Mandaue City Business Permit and Licensing Office, said the lockdowns were reported in June and July when Covid-19 cases in the city were at their peak.
Malate said the affected areas had already been disinfected.
He advised business establishments to monitor employees, especially those who have been in contact with an infected individual, and place them in isolation for 14 days. But if that particular employee has not been at work for two weeks prior to the report, the establishment will not be placed on lockdown.
He said companies should implement measures based on the contingency plan they submitted to the BPLO upon securing the special permit to operate.
Malate said many businesses required their employees to undergo a swab test when the city was placed on general community quarantine. This contributed to the increase inthe positive cases in the city, he said.
As for construction sites in the city, Malate said most have set up an isolation room for employees who test positive for Covid-19.
For August, he said only one firm, a manufacturing company, has reported a Covid-19 positive employee.
Malate encouraged businesses to coordinate with his office if any of their employees test positive for the disease so the City Government can implement measures and determine if there was transmission at the workplace.
Malate said he will tap barangay captains to beef up their inspections and information dissemination of businesses in their jurisdiction, particularly small and medium enterprises.
Malate also told SunStar Cebu that salons, internet cafes, tutorial centers, fitness gyms and pet grooming services have been compliant with health guidelines since these were allowed to reopen.
He said they are currently monitoring the highly populated establishments where there is a higher chance of transmission. (KFD)
