The first look at Filipino Broadway actress Lea Salonga’s character in the upcoming HBO Max series Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin is out!

The theater icon shared a still of her character as Elodie, the overbearing mother of Minnie, played by Filipino-American actress Malia Pyles, one of the new Liars in the new Pretty Little Liars reboot.

“Coming Summer 2022,” Salonga wrote on Instagram.

Of Salonga’s character, Entertainment Weekly writes, “Elodie works overtime to keep her daughter safe following a trauma that occurred when Minnie was just a little girl.”

The EW exclusive hints that the mothers of this series’ five teenage liars have a larger role to play as referenced by the “original sin” in the title.

Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin is no longer set in Rosewood and follows an entirely different set of characters, this time in the town of Millwood, Pennsylvania.

“Along with tracking the events of our five teenage Liars — Bailee Madison (Imogen), Minnie (Malia Pyles), Noa (Maia Reficco), Tabby (Chandler Kinney), and Faran (Zaria) — in present day, the show also gives viewers a glimpse into the past,” EW reports.

This version will reportedly tackle two mysteries at once: the teens’ present mystery and the mystery of their parents from when they were teens in 1999.

Salonga first announced that she was cast as a series regular in the series reboot in September. Before that, she was a judge on the highly popular The Voice Kids show in the Philippines.
The original Pretty Little Liars series premiered in 2010 and ran for seven seasons. It starred Lucy Hale, Ashley Benson, Shay Mitchell, Troian Bellisario, Sasha Pieterse, Ian Harding, and Tyler Blackburn.
