Fisherman dies after falling asleep while driving motorcycle

A 35-YEAR-OLD fisherman who fell asleep while driving a motorcycle on his way home from fishing had met an accident in Barangay Manduyong, Badian town in southwest Cebu at 1:35 a.m. Friday, January 6.

Richard Pocong, a resident of Barangay Basdiot, Moalboal town, was pronounced dead at the hospital, while his backrider who is also his relative, Dennis Ruiz Oyao, 34, of Bohol province, got wounded.

Major James Conaco, chief of Badian Police Station, said that according to Oyao, the victim was driving a Honda Click 125 motorcycle on their way home after they had gone spearfishing in Alegria town when Pocong fell asleep, lost control of the vehicle and crashed.

Pocong sustained severe wounds in the body due to the impact, resulting in his death.

Conaco said the victim might have fallen asleep due to the cold weather in the area and after getting tired from spearfishing. (GPL, TPT)
