Flash flood, landslide warnings up in South Mindanao

Rains from the inter-tropical convergence zone (ITCZ) could trigger flash floods and landslides in parts of Southern Mindanao, state weather forecasters warned Monday.

In its 11 a.m. weather advisory, PAGASA said the ITCZ may bring moderate to occasionally heavy rain of 5 to 15 mm per hour.

The areas it said may be affected include Sarangani, Sultan Kudarat, North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Maguindanao, Davao Del Sur, Davao Del Norte and Davao Oriental.

"This weather system is expected to bring moderate to occasionally heavy rains (5 to 15 mm/hour) and thunderstorms which may trigger flash floods and landslides," it said.

"Residents in these areas are advised to take all the necessary precautionary measures," it added.

Over the weekend, flash floods brought by heavy rain prompted the evacuation of several families.
