Floating cottages spotted off Talisay City

THREE floating cottages were spotted in the seawaters off Talisay City, southern Cebu on Tuesday morning, August 30, 2022.

These floating cottages, however, are not from Cordova town on Mactan Island but are owned by the Aznar family.

The operations of floating cottages in Cordova have been ordered stopped by Governor Gwendolyn Garcia starting August 29, 2022 following the result of the second water quality check off Cordova town that showed the fecal coliform level breaching the allowable level.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)-Central Visayas conducted the test in the vicinity of floating and fixed cottages in Cordova on August 10, 2022.

George Aznar, owner of Aznar Beach Resort in Barangay Poblacion, Talisay City, said they started making two of the floating cottages last month, but these could not be rented out yet to the public pending a permit to operate.

He assured that unlike the floating cottages in Cordova, his cottages have septic tanks.

For the meantime, Aznar said they are using the floating cottages for leisure purposes for their family members, friends and visitors and not for commercial purpose. (BBT, TPT)
