Floods from heavy rain affect 330 families in Cotabato

At least 330 families were affected by floods brought by heavy rain in South Cotabato province Sunday evening, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Monday.

In its 8 a.m. report, the NDRRMC said the incident occurred at 6:30 a.m. in seven areas in Barangay Esperanza in Norala town in South Cotabato, and four in Barangay Lopez Jaena.

The NDRRMC said the floods stemmed from the overflowing of the National Irrigation Administration canal in the area.

Of the 330 families affected, 250 were from Barangay Esperanza and 80 were from Barangay Lopez Jaena.

However, the NDRRMC said no evacuation was conducted.

State weather forecasters had indicated possible rain over parts of Mindanao, Visayas and Southern Luzon due to the easterlies or warm winds from the east. —KG, GMA News
