Former cook falls in buy-bust, yields P8.1M worth of shabu

LEO Cortes used to be a cook for a hotel along Gorordo Ave. in Cebu City.

But in the four months since Major Efren Diaz Jr. became chief of the Parian Police Station, his name always cropped up during investigations involving illegal drugs.

This prompted Diaz to hatch a plan to capture the 32-year-old resident of L. Flores Street in Barangay Pasil.

At Saturday dawn, Oct. 2, 2022, Cortes was arrested during a buy-bust on General Echavez St. in Barangay Lorega San Miguel by operatives of the Parian Police Station’s Drug Enforcement unit.

They recovered from Cortez 1.2 kilos of suspected shabu worth P8.1 million, based on the standard drug price.

Because of this, the suspect is considered a high-value individual, Diaz said.

Cortez admitted that it was his third time to deliver illegal drugs in exchange for P10,000.

He told police that he got the illegal drugs from someone who had a contact inside the Cebu City Jail, but he doesn’t have the inmate’s name.
