Former drug surrenderer nabbed for 'selling shabu'

ALL his efforts to attend the six-months drug rehabilitation program went for naught as he allegedly went back to engaging in the illegal drug activity.

Suspect Elton John dela Torre, 30, a former drug surrenderee from barangay Poblacion, Compostela town in northern Cebu was arrested in a buy-bust inside the Chinese cemetery in Barangay Carreta, Cebu City on Wednesday evening, October 5, 2022.

The buy-bust operation headed by Police Lieutenant Colonel Dindo Juanito Alaras, chief of Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) of the Cebu City Police Office, resulted in the arrest of Dela Torre, allegedly an online game fanatic and jobless.

The suspect yielded alleged shabu weighing 675 grams with a standard drug price of P4.6 million.

It was learned that Dela Torre already finished the drug rehabilitation program at the Community Based Drug Rehabilitation Center in Compostela when he reportedly went back into the drug trade.

In an interview with SunStar Cebu, the suspect said he became a drug courier during the Covid-19 pandemic to earn income to support his needs since he was unemployed.

He said somebody contacted him and asked him to help distribute the illegal substance, which he accepted.

He said that he personally repacked the shabu. He, however, refused to disclose the amount of shabu that he could dispose of every day.

His drug distribution network included Cebu City, and the towns of Consolacion, Liloan and Compostela, and Danao City.

Police Colonel Ireneo Dalogdog, the new CCPO director, immediately went to Carreta after the suspect's arrest.

This is the second biggest drug haul since Dalogdog assumed his new post and after the 1.2 kilos of shabu that were seized in a buy-bust in Barangay Lorega San Miguel recently.

"Sa atong direktiba sa atong mga (Our directives to our) station commanders mao ni ang resulta sa ilang mga lakaw especially ang atong mga personnel sa drug enforcement unit (this is the result of the activities of the drug enforcement unit personnel). We have to continue and intesify this illegal drug activities dinhi sa (here in) Cebu," Dalogdog said.

Dalogdog said they found out based on the information that they gathered that the parents of Dela Torre are both in jail.

His father was arrested for drugs, while his mother followed in jail for trying to bring shabu to her husband.

The CCPO chief warned other drug personalities in the city to stop their illegal activity as they are currently monitoring their illegal drug activity.

"Akong gipaniguro nga kadtong nag too nga milugak mi sa tanang nalambigit sa druga labi na sa mga namaligya ang kapulisan wala mohunong sa pagpangdakop niini ug moabot ra ang ilang adlaw nga sila madakpan ra," Dalogdog said.

(I assure those who believe that we loosened our efforts against drugs, especially the 'drug pushers', the police will not stop arresting them and their day will come when they will be arrested).

Dela Torre is currently put under the custody of the CCPO, pending the filing of the drug charges against him. (BBT, TPT)
