FORMER Dumanjug mayor Nelson Garcia died Tuesday, September 1, 2020, at Chong Hua Hospital in Cebu City, CFI chairman Winston Garcia said in a Facebook post on September 2, 2020.
“To my dearly beloved brother, words cannot express the deep sense of loss and grief for your untimely departure. YoYoi were always the son, the brother, the husband and the father I wish and have always aspired to be,” Winston said in his post.
Nelson's passing was also confirmed by the Cebu Provincial Government in a Facebook post on Sugbo News's account.
Nelson is the younger brother of Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia.
"It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Nelson Gamaliel Fiel Garcia, loving son, brother, husband and father. His demise occurred late last night, September 1, at Chong Hua Hospital," the post stated.
"He served the people of Dumanjug, Cebu, with devotion, as their mayor for two terms. He served the Province of Cebu with dedication as president of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines-Cebu Chapter. By his wit, he brought the gift of laughter to our lives. By his perseverance, he taught us to endure and to hope, in love and in service to the people," it added.
The Garcia family is asking for prayers "in this time of deep and unbearable grief." (ANV/LMY)
