A FORMER Talisay City engineer was appointed as the new director of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) Central Visayas office.

Engr. Gamaliel Vicente Jr. formally assumed his new post during a virtual turnover ceremony conducted on Friday, January 7, 2022.

Vicente formally succeeded outgoing Tesda 7 director and lawyer Andrew Bido.

The change in leadership of the region is in line with the Tesda Order No. 004 series 2022 issued by Tesda Director General, Secretary Isidro S. Lapeña, in which Tesda's regional and provincial directors shall go through assignment rotation to enhance their competence and experience in public service.

Bido, in his farewell message, reported the office’s success and achievements despite the challenges brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic and the recent onslaught of typhoon Odette.

In his speech, Vicente said he is excited to work with the people in Central Visayas, especially this is his home region and he will be back home to his family in Talisay City.

Vicente started his stint in Tesda when he was appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte as regional director in Tesda IV-B (MIMAROPA) last October 15, 2018 where he stayed for more than two years.

He was reassigned to TESDA Region VIII (Eastern Visayas) last January 4, 2021 prior to his new post in Central Visayas.

Prior to working with Tesda, Vicente was the City Engineer and Building Official of Talisay City, Cebu for over 15 years. (JKV, PR)
