THE Cebu Provincial Government has declared an all-out war against illegal drugs during the Provincial Development Council meeting at the Capitol on Thursday, September 15, 2022.

The meeting presided by Governor Gwendolyn Garcia was also attended by the personnel of the Provincial Peace and Order Council, Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council and Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.

During the meeting, the governor urged the chief executives of the different local government units in Cebu to unite in the campaign against drugs and other illegal activities.

"I would wish to make a statement now in the presence of all of our chief executives and other officials. In the presence of officials from the national government and agencies that here right now Cebu declares a total all-out war against drugs," said Garcia on Thursday.

Garcia said the support of stakeholders and local chief executives is a key to a safe and orderly environment.

"The province of Cebu hereby declares total all-out war against drugs in all of its component cities and municipalities," she added.

“Plano, plano ang klarong istorya kung dili nato padayunon ang total all-out war against drugs there will be no peace and order to talk about kay kahibaw ta ang drugas mao gyud na'y kasagaran sa mga krimen diha gyud na magsugod sa drugas,” Garcia said.

(Plan, plan is the clear story if we don't continue the total all-out war against drugs, there will be no peace and order to talk about because we know that most crimes start with drugs).

The all-out war against illegal drugs started under the administration of former President Rodrigo Duterte.

Part of the campaign is to evaluate the barangay for drug-cleared status, which can be granted if the area is already free from illegal drug activities.

Based on Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency’s (PDEA) data from 2016 to December 2021, up to P74.3 billion worth of illegal drugs were confiscated during police operations throughout the country.

Meanwhile, the Police Regional Office (PRO)-Central Visayas said it arrested 164 drug personalities and confiscated more than P5 million worth of shabu during the one-day Simultaneous Anti-Criminality and Law Enforcement Operation (Sacleo) that started at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday, September 13, until 12:01 a.m. of the following day, Wednesday.

The drugs amounting to P3,646,568 and P1,419,364 (208.73 grams) were seized in Cebu City and province, respectively. (ANV, TPT)
