CEBU Governor Gwendolyn Garcia denies rumors circulating on social media that she is Covid-19-positive.
During a press briefing held in Barili town on Monday, July 20, 2020, Garcia said she was surprised to hear that she was the subject of “fake news” being peddled on social media.
Garcia said: “I’m here, I’m not at the hospital. I will only pray that you won’t get karma. That is why those who are spreading fake news that I have Covid-19, that I was hospitalized, I can only pray that you won’t get sick with the same disease.”
The rumors started after Garcia did not appear at her usual live press briefing at the Capitol.
Garcia clarified that she was just busy holding meetings with officials of the Province in preparation for the eventual opening of tourism ventures with majority of the Provincial towns and cities now under modified general community quarantine.
She believes that the rumors may have started in the hospitals.
She said: “I was told by a classmate who is a doctor, how she heard of the rumors. She told me she heard it from some hospitals.”
But Garcia said she won’t press charges against those behind the rumors. (ANV/JKV)
