THE daily positivity rate of Coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases in Cebu City remains low and still within the threshold set by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Councilor Joel Garganera, the deputy chief implementer of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) said on Sunday, May 22, 2022, that the city's positivity rate has been under one percent for over two months already.

Garganera added that this number is safe and within the WHO's prescribed level of below five percent.

Despite this, the councilor reminds the public not to be complacent and should continuously observe the minimum health protocols.

"Again, let us not be complacent. Kaya nato ni busa amping ug ampo kanunay." said Garganera.

On Saturday, May 21, the EOC tested 675 individuals and only four have resulted positive for the Covid-19 virus.

This brings the daily positivity rate on that day to only 0.59 percent which brings the active Covid-19 cases in the city to 23.

The EOC's data also showed that the critical care occupancy rate of hospitals in the city remains low.

As of May 21, the occupancy rate of private hospitals was at 0.88 percent, while public hospitals only logged an occupancy rate of 0.86 percent.

Meanwhile, the number of barangays with recorded Covid-19 transmission has increased to 14 from only 11 last May 20. This means that there are 66 barangays in Cebu City with no recorded transmission of the virus. (IRT)
