THE Gilas cadets have joined NLEX ace Kiefer Ravena and naturalized player candidate Angelo Kouame in the Gilas Pilipinas training bubble inside the Inspire Sports Academy in Calamba, Laguna to prepare for the last leg of the FIBA Asia Cup qualifying games that will be held in Clark, Pampanga next month.
Former Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. Most Valuable Player Rey Anthony Suerte and the other special Gilas draftees, namely Isaac Go and Mike and Matt Nieto are already inside the training bubble along with cadets Javi Gomez de Liano, Dave Ildefonso, Justine Baltazar, Calvin Oftana, William Navarro and Kenmark Carino.
Ravena was the first to enter the bubble on Sunday while the rest of the players that will comprise the Gilas pool, will join the group later this week.
Meanwhile, Gilas’ coaching staff has also been boosted with the arrival of veteran coaches Norman Black of the Meralco Bolts and Caloy Garcia of the Rain or Shine E-Painters.
The third and final window of the qualifiers is scheduled on Feb. 18 to 21, 2021. The Philippines have a tall task ahead of them, with two games against longtime rivals South Korea and another against vastly improved Indonesia.
