The Gilas Pilipinas men’s national basketball team nabbed its first win in the 2022 FIBA Asia Cup in dominant fashion as they routed India, 101-59, on Friday at the Istora Senayan in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Forced into a must-win situation after losing to Lebanon a few days ago, the Gilas came into the match with renewed focus and used a 31-point explosion in the second to erect a 49-27 advantage. From there, the lead just kept on growing and eventually reached a high of 42 at 95-53 with a little over three minutes remaining in the lopsided affair.

Korea-bound big man William Navarro tallied 18 points, while Thirdy Ravena added 17 points, five boards, and two steals.

Bobby Ray Parks chipped in 12 points and four assists, while Rhenz Abando had 10 markers to help the Gilas even their record up at 1-1 in Group D. The Philippines will wrap up the group stage with a match against the tough New Zealand squad on Sunday at 9 p.m.

Muin Bek Hafeez led India with 14 points but it was not enough to keep them from falling to 0-2 in the group stage.
