The Gilas Pilipinas Women suffered yet another lopsided loss, this time falling to Chinese Taipei, 93-52, in the 2021 FIBA Women's Asia Cup on Thursday morning at the Prince Hamza Hall in Amman, Jordan.

Afril Bernardino turned in a fantastic performance, piling up 24 points, 14 rebounds, three assists and two steals. Unfortunately, it was far from enough as the rest of her teammates failed to step up in the face of Chinese Taipei’s red-hot shooting from the outside.

The women from Taiwan canned 15 three-pointers, while the Filipinas made just two. The loss relegated the Gilas Women to a classification match against India for seventh place on Friday. The loser of that game will get bumped down to Division B.

Already ahead, 45-30, at halftime, Chinese Taipei poured it on in the third and outscored the Gilas Women, 31-11 to raise their lead to a whopping 35 points, 76-41, heading to the last period of action.

Lin Wen-yu led Chinese Taipei with 19 points and four rebounds while Cheng I-Hsiu added 14 points, seven boards, and three assists. Liu Hsi-Yeh pitched in 13 points, highlighted by four makes from beyond the arc. The win was Chinese Taipei’s first in the competition and it sets up a match against Korea, with the winner moving on to face Japan in the semifinal round. (JNP)
