The Barangay Ginebra Kings capped off their elimination round campaign with a 100-93 win over the Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters in the PBA Season 47 Philippine Cup on Thursday night at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

The Kings finished the elims with consecutive wins, which was a nice pivot after losing two straight while head coach Tim Cone was in the United States, learning the ropes as an assistant on the summer league squad of the NBA’s Miami Heat.

Cone said the victory was a timely one as it gave them some momentum heading to the playoffs.

“It’s an eliminations-long process for us. We always think the eliminations as being our preparation for the playoffs. Every game we play is hopefully, some kind of preparation for us. Today was especially important because this is the one before we actually go. So, we want to play at a high-level,” said Cone.

High-leaping forward Japeth Aguilar played efficiently, tallying 17 points in just 19 minutes of action. Scottie Thompson added 14 markers and 14 boards, while Aljon Mariano chipped in 13 points.

Phoenix ended its campaign with a 3-8 card and played without top gun Matthew Wright who is in the United States to prepare for his upcoming wedding.

Jason Perkins and Sean Anthony carried the scoring load for the Fuel Masters, putting up 17 and 16 points, respectively.
