The Barangay Ginebra Kings will be looking to bounce back after a horrendous loss to San Miguel when they tackle the TerraFirma Dyip in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Philippine Cup on Monday, November 8, at the Angeles University Foundation Sports Arena and Cultural Center in Pampanga.
Tip-off is at 6:45 p.m. following the games between Phoenix and Blackwater at 1 p.m. and Alaska and NLEX at 4 p.m.
A win versus the Dyip will install Ginebra as the top seed in the quarterfinals and will own a twice-to-beat advantage over the eighth seed. The Kings missed their first chance at booking the top spot when they lost to the five-time defending Philippine Cup champions San Miguel, 66-81, on Sunday. The defeat placed Ginebra into a tie for first place with TNT at 7-3 (win-loss).
However, a win today will clinch the top spot for Ginebra by virtue of the winner-over-the-other rule.
They will try to not make the same mistake against a TerraFirma squad that has fought better than their 1-8 record shows.
The Dyip are coming off a heartbreaking 93-95 loss to Meralco last Sunday in a game that saw Chris Newsome sink a buzzer-beating jumper to give the Bolts the thrilling victory. Meralco head coach Norman Black commended the Dyip for their relentless effort, coming back from a 20-point deficit to tie the game at 93-all with under a minute remaining in the game.
"I know they've been struggling this conference, but they didn't give up. They made things really difficult for us down the stretch. You have respect for that because they can easily give up in the game and they did not. They wanted to win," Black was quoted as saying on the league’s website. (JNP)
