BARANGAY Ginebra nabbed the top spot in the standings with an 85-79 victory over the TNT Tropang Giga in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Philippine Cup on Friday, November 6, at the Angeles University Foundation Sports Arena and Cultural Center in Pampanga.
Ginebra took full advantage of the TNT Tropang Giga’s abysmal shooting from beyond the arc to grab their seventh win in nine games while sending TNT to their third loss in four matches that dropped their win-loss record to 6-3.
TNT made just five of their 41 attempts from rainbow country in a miserable shooting performance they’d soon rather forget. Overall, the Tropang Giga shot just 28-of-96 from the field.
In spite of their shooting woes, TNT remained within striking distance, 72-76, after two free-throws from Roger Pogoy with 3:34 to go. However, Ginebra had an answer in Stanley Pringle who made consecutive layups to bring the Kings’ lead back to eight, 80-72, time down to 1:53.
TNT last threatened at 79-83 after a triple by Bobby Ray Parks but Ginebra wingman Scottie Thompson made a couple of free-throws that sealed the victory for the Kings.
Pringle finished with 28 points and 12 rebounds, while Japeth Aguilar had 19 markers and 11 boards. LA Tenorio almost had a double-double of his own with 15 points and nine assists.
Jayson Castro led TNT with 19 points, while JP Erram chipped in 17. However, the Tropang Giga missed the normal production of Troy Rosario who managed just two points on two made free-throws. Rosario just could not get a basket as he missed all 15 of his attempts. (JNP)
