Ginebra thwarts NorthPort to gain share of lead in standings

THE Barangay Ginebra Kings disposed of the struggling NorthPort Batang Pier, 112-100, to gain a share of the lead in the standings in the PBA Philippine Cup on Wednesday, November 4, at the Angeles University Foundation Sports Arena and Cultural Center in Pampanga.

The win tied Ginebra with TNT at 6-2 (win-loss) dropped further down the standings to 1-6.

Ginebra started off slow and trailed, 23-29, after the first quarter but found their groove in the second, outscoring NorthPort, 34-19, to take a 57-48 halftime lead. The Kings’ lead eventually ballooned to a high of 19 as they kept the pressure up until the game’s final buzzer.

An astounding eight players scored in double-figures for Ginebra led by the 17 points of Stanley Pringle and the 15 of Aljon Mariano. Veterans Japeth Aguilar and LA Tenorio submitted 13 markers apiece, Joe Devance added 12 while Scottie Thompson and Prince Caperal tallied 11 points each. Jeff Chan contributed 10 points of his own.

Ginebra’s chemistry was in full effect against NorthPort as they registered a whopping 37 assists.

NorthPort was led by the 23 points apiece of Christian Standhardinger and Kevin Ferrer. The Batang Pier continued to miss the services of ace forward Sean Anthony who is recovering from a hamstring injury. (JNP)
